Photojournalism Seminar and Workshops
Commercial Photographer Workshop For Professionals and Advanced Amateurs
The PDN PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo is an annual photography event for professionals, students, educators and advanced amateurs interested in the photography and digital imaging industries such as commercial, editorial, wedding, portrait and art photography, among others. The PhotoPlus photography conference includes photography courses, seminars, lectures and workshops taught by some of the world’s finest photography instructors and artists on subjects such as lighting and posing, wedding photography, business and marketing, social media, Photoshop and Lightroom, and video and multimedia.
People who attend a photojournalism seminar as part of PhotoPlus Expo may be introduced to expert tips and techniques that have been used by generations of photographers, whether covering news and current events or personal projects intended to inform and foster social change. This seminar track often looks at case studies that illustrate how photography can be effective in reaching out to change parts of the world for the better, where it has worked well, where it has not, and why. Recently, a panel discussion was hosted titled Photography as Activism, featuring a generation of photographers who not only capture images, but use those images to find solutions for the issues, such as Ed Kashi, Stephen Shames, Jonathan Torgovnik and Michelle Bogre. Other editorial classes recently included The Big Picture: Editorial Photography Behind the Scenes lead by Art Streiber, Making Editorial Photography Effective lead by Marcus Bleasdale and a panel discussion titled VII Building a Team for Reportage Work.
Even more, commercial photography workshops can introduce you to the processes and players in shooting for advertising or corporations and how to deal with clients that hire you to shoot something they’re seeking to promote or sell. The PhotoPlus Commercial photography seminar track can help provide insights into how art producers evaluate cold calls and photographers' promotions, and how to put your best foot forward during portfolio meetings and bidding on a job. In some cases, samples of favorite promos and of memorable portfolio presentations are included. Examples of recent classes that were part of the Commercial track at PhotoPlus include Secrets of Great Portrait Photography lead by Sony Artisan of Imagery, Brian Smith, and Buck Naked: The Secrets Behind the Master Portrait Photographer lead by Chris Buck.
Our Photography conference is typically structured for anyone to purchase a pass that’s most suitable for their educational needs, available time or budget. The PhotoPlus Conference and Expo is held each October at the Javits Convention Center in New York City and regularly attracts over 250 exhibitors and nearly 242,000 attendees.
